Top Ways to Burn Stored Fat

March 19th, 2012

Here are the Top 3 Ways to Burn Stored Fat:

3. Train with Resistance: Remember that when you weight train you are building lean muscle that speeds up your metabolism.  Every pound of muscle you have will burn an extra 50-100 calories per day!  Don’t worry about bulking up, you will look toned and tight so get out there and lift weights!

2. Eat Small Meals Every 2-3 Hours: Another excellent way to speed up your metabolism is eating every 3 hours.  Your body will never go into starvation mode (in which your metabolism slows down and holds onto stored fat instead of burning it) and you will be in constant burning mode.  Remember to keep the meals small so you don’t overload on calories.

1. Do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).  HIIT is often considered the number one way to burn stored fat because you not only burn a ton of calories when you do it, but your metabolism is raised for up to 24 hours afterward!  Plus, you don’t have to work out as long as you would doing a non-interval workout.  Here is an example of a good HIIT workout:

Treadmill:

warm up 5 min

Walk for 2 min on interval 3, speed 4

Sprint for 2 min on interval 3, speed 8

Repeat these two intervals for 20 minutes

Cool down for 5 minutes

Elliptical:

Warm up for 5 min

Set resistance at 6 and go at moderate pace for 2 min

Set resistance at 11 and go full speed for 1 min

Repeat these two intervals for 20 min

Cool down for 5 min

**You don’t have to use the exact speed/resistance that I suggested, just wanted to give you an example.  Also, try mixing up the intervals any way you want.  You can do 3 min moderate, 1 min fast to start and then work up to 2 and 1 and then 1 and 1, etc.
